Here is a sampling of the types of certifications held by Dole’s various operations in Asia. These certifications may differ across our operations.
Good Manufacturing Practices ensures that products are consistently manufactured, packed, re-packed, and stored to a quality package appropriate for the intent of use, and in safe and sanitary conditions.
FLOCERT assures that a manufacturer or processor functions comply with the standards of Fairtrade International. This certifies fairness with hired labor and small producer organizations in terms of working conditions, freedom of association and collective bargaining of workers, management of fairtrade premium, and democracy of profit. Our trader standards have also been certified to conform with fair and sustainable trading relations with the market, our laborers, and the environment.
HACCP is a science-based system, identifies specific hazards and measures to ensure the safety of food. HACCP is a tool to assess hazards and establish control systems that focus on prevention rather than relying mainly on end-product testing. The Dole food safety and security program is based on risk assessment and analysis to prevent contamination from happening anywhere along the food supply chain.
Quality Management covers and assures the quality standard on planting, growing, harvesting, packing, and van loading of fresh bananas and papayas as well as the receiving, segregating, stuffing, and vessel loading of boxed fruits.
ISO 22000 is a Food Safety Management System that can be applied to any organization in the food chain, farm to fork. Becoming certified to ISO 22000 allows us to show our customers that we have a food safety management system in place. Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS, ISO 22000) allow for an effective food safety system that achieves best practices in food safety, while maintaining economic goals. These systems may be integrated with other management requirements such as those for quality and environment. FSMS provides customers
confidence in our products. This is becoming more and more important as customers demand safe food and food processors require that ingredients obtained from suppliers are safe.
In 2000, Dole received SA 8000:2008 certification. SA 8000 is the first global standard to define socially responsible and ethical business practices. With its set of auditable criteria, SA 8000 in the organization allows for fair sourcing of goods and services, protection of worker’s rights, and improved relationships with suppliers, government and NGO’s, customers, and the general public. The scope of this certification includes planting, growing, harvesting, packing and van loading of fresh bananas, papayas and avocados in several areas in Mindanao.
ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organizations improve their environmental performance through the more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and the trust of stakeholders. The certification demonstrates compliance with applicable laws relating to environmental regulations, management of environmental risks, increases employee engagement, shows commitment to improving the environment, and shows a responsible and focused organization.
SGF International e. V. connects quality conscious players in the global juice industry. The certification ensures the authenticity of fruit products, traceability of the products, hygiene condition during production, sustainable and responsible company management, proper labeling of finished and semi-finished products, and compliance with the rules of the SGF voluntary control system. Not only does it enhance industrial self-control, SGF certification provides fair competition, risk reduction, cost reduction and enhances B2B and consumer trust.
FSSC 22000 is a global ISO food certification scheme for Food Safety Management System (FSMS). It is fully recognized and accepted by the GFSI and by the European co-operation for Accreditation. It is a combination of Food Safety System ISO 22000 and Prerequisite Programs (ISO TS 22000-2). This certification assures the customer of our commitment to producing safe foods, improves our profile and credibility, creates a competitive advantage in the marketplace, meets present and/ or future anticipated demands of customers, potentially lower levels of regulatory reporting, and easily integrates into other process management systems such as Quality Management System. Dole was the first agricultural company in the Philippines to earn ISO 22000 Certification for observance of food safety management, product traceability and prevention of hazards at any point of the food chain.
Kosher is a Hebrew word, which is generally used to describe foods that are prepared in accordance with special Jewish dietary laws.
The Halal certification is an assurance that the product fully meets the requirements of Islam and the food can be eaten by Muslims. Halal also assures customers that the food served is healthy and that the premises’ hygiene and sanitation procedures are in top-notch conditions. Halal certifications widen the range of our customers by attracting Muslim customers and non-Muslims who are Halal consumers.
BPS formulates Philippine National Standards (PNS) or adopts relevant international or foreign standards to help industries produce quality products or services and raise productivity. The standards not only protect the consumers but also facilitate trade in the global market. Currently, our BPS mark is for Fresh Pineapple, Canned Pineapple, and Canned Pineapple Juice.
Global GAP is an internationally recognized set of farm standards dedicated to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Through certification, producers demonstrate their adherence to Global GAP standards. For consumers and retailers, the Global GAP certificate is reassurance that food reaches accepted levels of safety and quality, and has been produced sustainably, respecting the health, safety, and welfare of workers, the environment, and in consideration of animal welfare issues.
The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit environmental and sustainable organization. It works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihood by transforming land-use practices, business practices, and consumer behavior. The Rainforest Seal is an assurance that the ingredient was derived from Rainforest Alliance certified farms. The certification helps to strengthen our reputation and brand image, address regulatory and government requirement, manage and mitigate risks, enhance transparency, access new markets, reduce cost, and reduce labor turnover.
Good Agricultural Practices are practices in farm production and post-production processes resulting in safe and healthy food, while taking into account economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
The ISO / IEC 17025: 2005 accredits the technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This certification allows laboratories to apply specific tests for food testing and ensures the implementation of a quality system that continually produces valid results.
